This Dog Is About To Spend His Second Christmas In A Shelter In England

Bentley, a three-year-old Staffordshire terrier, has spent more than 400 days at an RSPCA-run shelter in Aylesbury, England. He simply wants to find a forever home, and finding one before Christmas would be ideal.

According to RSPCA Press Officer Amy Ockelford:

“He was found living in really, really horrible conditions when he was located by inspectors soon before Christmas last year. They saved him, brought him to us, and showed him a lot of love (time, love and care). He has now spent 401 days in our care, God bless him.

Bentley’s circumstance is a little unique, according to Amy, who noted that it takes roughly 36 days for any dog or cat who enters the shelter to be adopted. Bentley may be having trouble finding housing because of his lack of interaction with mom.

Says Amy

“When he initially came, he had issues because he found it challenging to be around other dogs and because he was rather frightened of unfamiliar surroundings. He had clearly been left alone, not properly walked, and not socialized.

The breed of the Bentley could be another factor. His breed, the Staffordshire terrier, has the unfavorable reputation of being “dangerous.”

Says Amy

“Sometimes it’s difficult for us to retrieve Staffordshire terriers. They are such amazing dogs and can make such fantastic companions; they get along well with both adults and kids, which is a terrible tragedy. They have an unjust reputation, in my opinion.”

The staff has been attempting to interact with Bentley ever when he first came to the shelter. Amy said, “He’s gone a long way, but he’ll need someone who can and will continue his training.”

She uttered:

Our team had to invest a lot of effort in boosting his self-esteem, acclimating him to other animals, and preparing him for unfamiliar circumstances. Therefore, whomever becomes the new owners of those properties will have to continue that kind of effort and understand that they must be patient and take their time.

“In around 400 days, he has gained a lot of social confidence. He adores people wholeheartedly. He is known as the King of Hugs by the center’s personnel. He is quite nice and enjoys receiving it.

Bentley’s charming disposition hasn’t, however, been able to help him find the family he deserves, which surprises everyone.
