Blind Woman Breaks Down In Tears Upon Seeing Her Guide Dog For The First Time In 8 Years

Mary Sedgwick’s vision started to deteriorate when she was in medical school. She was identified as having bilateral optic neuritis, a disease that eventually caused blindness and caused her to lose sight of her dreams.

Mary stated to The Dodo:

“The only identification I had of myself was that of a doctor, and then all of a sudden, that perception of myself vanished. I battled for a number of years to find my bearings and bring myself out of a severe depression.

But Mary afterwards encountered someone who transformed her life.

She was teamed up with Lucy, a service dog, in 2010. Lucy was trained as part of a program called Leader Dogs for the Blind. When Lucy and Mary first met, she was just 15 months old, and they clicked straight away.

John said:

“She came to throw me out of my chair, rush into my arms, and kiss my face. She was aware that when Lucy and I immediately bonded, my life’s adventure was about to begin anew.

The relationship between them has been closer and closer ever since. Although Mary had lost sight of her, she had made a dependable companion.

She spoke.

Lucy acts as my eyes, showing me the way through life. She has been instructed to warn me of anything that prevents me from moving forward at every turn. I have a unique level of faith for her guide dog, feeling every bodily motion pass through the harness in her palm.

However, Lucy does more than just assist Mary. She shows him a lot of affection as well.

Lucy is quite loving, especially when she kisses you with her long, slimy tongue. She radiates life’s enthusiasm, which is contagious.

Mary went into a profound melancholy as a result of the progressive loss of her sight, which she compares to “watching a movie that was slowly going away.” But that briefly altered owing to modern technologies.

John said:

“After receiving a diagnosis, I descended into a profound despair and started to cut off all contact with the outside world. I lost sight of the reason I was here on Earth and was unable to find fulfillment in my life. On March 4, 2004, I finally awoke in total darkness. She was frozen with terror. I can now see faint lights and shapes thanks to medicine advancements throughout the years. The easiest way to explain it is to compare it to beginning on a foggy mirror after taking a shower; whereas those with strong eyesight may remove the fog to see clearly, for me, the fog never goes away.
