Cancer Survivor Woman Didn’t Believe She’d See Her Dog After 2 Years

At a crucial point in his life, following chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Kameroun Mares acquired a lovely Husky. They shared a lot of affection and companionship, but in 2016, the Florida resident had to spend some time in California for more treatments, so she left her dog, Semper Fidelis (Always loyal in Latin), with her roommate.

From Cameroon:

He has consistently remained loyal to me.

Unfortunately, Kameroun received a call that he never anticipated and that devastated him sometime after his departure.

When she got home, she looked all over for her cherished puppy but was unable to locate him. In the same year that Kameroun had to return to California, she kept up her struggle and called every shelter in Florida.

From Cameroon:

For a year, I kept looking for him in California by phoning shelters, placing fliers on pet websites, taking him to 15 different veterinarians, and more.

“I shared information about him on Facebook, in forums and groups dedicated to missing dogs. I awaited a call from someone looking for him every day. I’ve registered his microchip when he was three months old. I didn’t get anything, though. I missed him a lot and was concerned about him.

To assist him in locating Semper, Kameroun made the decision to work with private investigator Ana Campos.

Ann stated:

“With AKC Reunite, she had invested in a lifetime registration. Someone advised her to recheck her AKC Reunite chip a year later. She visited the Humane Society in May 2017 and the procedure was completed online. At that point, she learned that a lady had inscribed her name on the Semper chip a year ago, on April 11, 2016.”

It appears that the other microchip manufacturer neglected to determine if an owner was already listed on the Semper chip. Semper was listed for sale for $200, which is why Kameroun had not been able to locate him, the investigator learned.

When the reunion day finally arrived, Kameroun and Semper were giddy with anticipation. The dog could not stop bouncing as the woman started to cry with excitement.

Ann stated:

“One of the finest days of my life was being able to participate in this gathering and be there.”
