Veteran Chooses His Service Dog To Be His Best Man At The Wedding

When Justin Lansford and his fiancée Carol Balmes got engaged, Justin was aware that his service dog, Gabe, would serve as the best man. In 2012, while Justin was a US soldier stationed in Afghanistan, he first met Gabe.

Unfortunately, an IED (improvised explosive device) wounded Justin while he was serving, causing him to lose one of his legs.

The military chose to send Justin back to the United States for recuperation as a result of this critical occurrence.

In his words:

“We struck an IED, and my truck was completely inverted. My left leg was amputated as a consequence of bilateral femur severance.

Justin eventually needed a service dog because of his wounds to aid him with his limits and post-traumatic stress disorder from the war.

Justin met Gabe through the Warrior Canine Connection when he was getting well at Walter Reade National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

A nonprofit group called Warrior Canine Connection is devoted to raising support dogs for injured troops in various circumstances.

An instant bond developed between them when Justin was introduced together with his 2-year-old service dog.
