This Brave Ukrainian Woman Flees Her Country Carrying Her Elderly Dog On Her Shoulders For 10 Miles To Cross The Border

Because of her compassion and bravery to not forsake your four-legged pet, the tale of a Ukrainian lady who escaped the nation while carrying her elderly dog on her shoulders for more than 10 kilometers to make it across the border has gone viral across the world.

Alisa wrote a first-person account of her terrifying journey with her family and pets for The Guardian newspaper. The woman was deeply impacted by the sudden death of her father on February 23 and the subsequent day’s explosions in the major Ukrainian cities.

In her words:

“We’ve lost a lot of stuff. Dad died; we lost him. At the border, I abandoned my spouse. Because I’ve never been without him, my heart is crushed.

Working as a Python programmer for a German business, Alisa was able to travel to Poland with her family, two dogs, and an elderly German Shepherd. Even yet, her husband’s age and the mobilization order prevented him from crossing the border.

According to the lady, there were a lot of automobiles close to the Polish border, and she and her family couldn’t stay in the car for the following three to five days, so they made the decision to walk 10 miles in minus seven-degree weather.

The 12-and-a-half-year-old German shepherd fought to maintain his balance while walking over that challenging trek, but he frequently lost his balance and was unable to get back up. The folks standing close to him rejected Alisa’s attempts to solicit their assistance and advised her to leave the dogs.

In her words:

“With us, my dog has experienced both joyful and sad times. All that is left of his former life is Mom’s dog. So occasionally my husband would carry our dog on his shoulders.
