The ‘Saddest Dog In The World’ Is Homeless Again

According to Rescue Dogs Match, Lana has found a foster home and a new training program. Her tale will be followed by The Dodo in the future.

Thousands of individuals from all over the globe applied to adopt Lana, a shelter dog who had earned the nickname “the saddest dog in the world” not long ago.

A photo of Lana forlorn in her cage went viral in October 2015. Lana was too depressed to go on walks after the family who had adopted her returned her to the shelter.

When Lana was born in Mexico, she was the runt of the litter. She had to battle for food with her siblings on a regular basis. She was then sent to Toronto, Canada, where she was given the opportunity to live in a real household.

Lana was moved from one foster family to the next. She looked to have finally found her forever family when she was 5 months old. Lana appeared to be a positive and loving addition to the family.

Lana, however, snapped at her mother one day while being fed. Her experiences as the runt of the litter may have prompted her to guard her food. With small children, the family became concerned, and Lana was returned to the shelter. That’s when the shot of complete despondency was taken. It seemed as though her entire world had gone dark.

Lana, who had been so depressed that she refused to eat or go on walks, ultimately found another permanent home after being placed in a foster home. It was January 2016, and the future seemed promising. We believed Lana’s narrative was finished, with the most happy conclusion possible – until now.

The appeal that no one could have predicted arrived last week: “Lana’s birthday is May 14 (she will be three),” Rescue Dogs Match stated on Facebook. “Please assist in finding her a foster or permanent home. Lana only has till May 20th to complete her mission.”

When asked what would happen to her after May 20, the rescue organisation said she could be put to death because she has been without a permanent home for three years.

Lana was eventually returned to the shelter in July of 2016. Lana was placed in a boarding house until October of 2016. She was then placed in a foster family for a week. In November 2016, she was transferred to a new boarding facility.

Lana is now unable to board since the boarding facility has become overcrowded. She must, however, find someone patient and compassionate enough to assist her in learning to trust.

“People want a dog they can pet and play with,” Brenda Dobranski, creator of Rescue Dogs Match, told The Dodo. “Lana’s adoption did not work out because people want a dog they can pet and play with.” “Lana is a lively, entertaining girl, but she isn’t the kind of dog who will accept belly rubs or sleep in your bed. She adores having a career.”

Lana would thrive on a farm where she could spend the most of her time outside. “She adores being outside, regardless of the weather,” says the mother. Matching Rescue Dogs

Lana’s current boarding facility, a remote in-home boarding facility, requires her to leave by May 20.

“We need to prioritize Lana’s happiness and well-being,” Dobranski stated. “It’s not right that she has to constantly traveling around. She just accepts and settles, only to be uprooted again. Her growth is slowed every time she moves.”

“A mature couple or individual with the time, patience, dedication, and devotion to help her grow more confident would be the greatest family for her,” the rescue stated. “It’s hard-wired into her nature that she’s lovely and goofy. She is hesitant at first, afraid of strangers. She has a propensity to shut down or become very reluctant when she is not among the people she trusts.”

Lana also enjoys socializing with other dogs, so someone who is willing to set up playdates with canine neighbors would be excellent.

“On [May 20], I’m not sure what will happen to Lana,” Dobranski continued. “Unfortunately, euthanasia is an option, but with all of the time, support, and money donated to Lana, I don’t even want to consider it.”
