This adorable dog named Negro lived beside Iquique Fire Department first responders for more than a decade. As a station dog, he kept an eye on things when firemen were deployed on calls and was there to welcome them back with a wagging tail.

The dog’s cheerful presence very sure helped people around him relax while they went about their frequently risky duties, and made the lengthy periods of silence more delightful in between.

Negro’s years of service had unfortunately come to an end.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that the devoted dog had died at the age of 14 following a period of poor health.

“One of our members left the planet this afternoon – our four-legged firefighter,” the fire service announced on its website. “Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for us over the years. We’ll never forget you.”

Negro’s coworkers, on the other hand, paid him honor in more ways than one. The department’s board of directors decided to take it a step further by conferring the title of “honorary fireman” on the dog, as well as the last respects that come with it.

“Negro was one of us, a member of this clan. He was well-liked and respected “According to Soyiquique.cl, Fire Captain Jorge Tapia “We said our goodbyes in a very emotional ceremony since we were saying goodbye to one of our own, who was a vital component of our organization.”

And his value to them was evident when the dog’s coffin was brought out, accompanied by his coworkers.
