Three Wild Animals Approach A Police Officer Patrolling In Their Territory, And The Officer Responds

The challenge of protecting the ecosystem and animal species is not easy, contrary to common opinion. To carry out such noble job, a great deal of knowledge, sensitivity, and variables must be considered, especially when it comes to endangered creatures.

This is something Daniel Ojeda, a wildlife volunteer, knows well. During a patrol in a forested area in the Province of Santa Fe, Argentina, he couldn’t believe what he witnessed.

He encountered three wild animals known as aguara guaz (or maned wolves) while traveling over the highlands, three magnificent examples considered endangered but completely harmless to humans.

For Ojeda, it was a big honor. The hairy ones approached him and confidently and tenderly allowed themselves to be touched. Certainly, this is a reality that should cause us to pause, because, despite their noble status, these animals are constantly attacked by man’s criminal hand.

“The aguara guaz are highly innocuous to people, which appears to be a wonderful thing, but it has been difficult for them to be prey to illicit hunting for decades,” Ojeda added.

These wild species are native to the Brazilian, Argentine, Bolivian, Paraguayan, and Uruguayan regions. After being thought to be extinct for a long time, this latest sighting is practically miraculous.

They are predatory predators of smaller animals, therefore cattle have nothing to fear from them. They are easily identified by their unique red fur and their huge size, which can reach one meter in height and length.

It is easy to see the man who is enthralled by the encounter in the photographs. He was able to not only view the wolves up close, but also to pet and play with them like if they were his lifetime companions.

“Having the opportunity to engage with three species in this way is priceless,” Daniel Ojeda said. “I felt thrilled, a unique experience that this profession, this life, has given me.”

Despite the fact that poaching has destroyed this species, habitat loss is now its biggest threat. The principal adversaries are the progressive dryness of wetlands and forest degradation.

Its survival is inextricably linked to the strategies implemented by many countries in order to halt the indiscriminate slaughter of the lovely guaz aguara.
