Rangers Save an Abandoned Baby Elephant – Now They Have A New Pet in the House!

Most individuals have a dog or a cat in their home, which is quite common. People had no idea that the creator of the wildlife refuge Wild is Life, a Zimbabwean woman, had been sharing her home with a rescued young elephant named Moyo for almost a year. Earlier this year, Roxy rescued a newborn elephant named Moyo and took him to her house. The two have been living together ever since.

At just a few days of age, Moyo was crossing the river with a herd of elephants when she was discovered. Moyo’s herd had already departed before she was able to get onshore. A hyena group was waiting for her when she eventually made it to the herd. Her rescue was made possible thanks to Roxy and a few rangers who arrived just in time.

Roxy understood that without their moms, young elephants like Moyo would starve in the wild. Moyo weighed just 56 kilos at the time because she was in bad condition. When an elephant is born, it should weigh between 90 and 100 kilos. Roxy supplemented Moyo’s 18 liters of formula each day to get her back on her feet. Moyo grew up easily and in good health, thanks to Roxy’s tenacity and Moyo’s strong determination to live.

Roxy not only saved Moyo, but she also accompanied her and slept with her. Moyo feels safe as long as Roxy is with her, and she doesn’t have to fear about the herd leaving her behind. Now that Moyo is a full-grown elephant, she considers Roxy to be her mother.

Because Moyo is still developing, the space available to her indoors is becoming increasingly limited. Roxy typically plays outside with Moyo, but she loves to play with her mother indoors. Even though Moyo is an adult, she has the spirit of a kid and is fascinated by her surroundings. She enjoys exploring the home, stealing fruits from the kitchen, and playing with the dinnerware.

Because Moyo was terrified of water as a result of the river event when she was a baby, Roxy worked with her to help her overcome her phobia by encouraging her to play in the water with her. Moyo was able to overcome her phobia of water after 15 months of hard training and began to enjoy aquatic activities.

Roxy and Moyo, the young elephant, have a special bond that has touched the hearts of many viewers of the video below:

If it hadn’t been for Roxy’s assistance, Moyo, the baby elephant, might not have lived. Roxy and Moyo have a profound connection that can last a lifetime since Moyo considers Roxy to be her mother.

“Animals were always first in our extended family, therefore my upbringing was centered on them! My mother, her sister, and my grandmother all loved horses, so we grew up on a farm with a riding school, cattle, lambs, dogs, cats, owls, hamsters, ducks, geese… the works.”

Roxy has a strong reputation for her expertise and experience in the care and rehabilitation of abused and neglected animals. Despite the fact that caring for rescue animals has been difficult for her, she has realized a lifelong ambition. She founded the sanctuary’s first elephant orphanage, and Moyo was the first elephant to live there.
