A Goat Left At The Vet’s Office Has Made The Best New Friends

Piper Wood’s heart ached when she saw the 4-month-old goat within the teeny-tiny concrete kennel, and she knew she had to help.

“She was very sad in the kennel,” Wood, the founder of the Los Angeles-based Hand in Paw rescue group, told The Dodo. “She was there for two days and cried the entire time.”

The manager of Duarte Azusa Animal Hospital told Wood about the goat, which she called Clementine. Someone had taken Clementine to the clinic a few days earlier after she had broken her leg.

“She [the previous owner] wanted a goat but couldn’t have one since she lived in such a small flat,” Wood explained. “I think her boyfriend got her a goat, but they couldn’t keep her since they didn’t have anywhere to put her.”

According to Wood, the owner’s boyfriend worked at an auto body shop, so the couple opted to keep the goat there.

Clementine, on the other hand, broke her leg at the car body shop.

“She was leaping about, and her leg got hooked in something, and she ended up with a pretty severe fracture in her rear leg,” Wood explained. “Her rear leg just broke,” says the narrator.

“Car bits and metal were all everywhere,” Wood added. “There was no grass to be found. It was just an awful place for a goat to be.”

According to Wood, the goat’s owners had also dehorned her, which entails pressing a hot iron on a young goat’s delicate horn buds to prevent her horns from developing.

Clementine was taken to the vet clinic by one of the staff, where she got emergency care.

Donna Menzemer, the manager at Duarte Azusa Animal Hospital, told The Dodo, “She couldn’t move her leg at all.” “She needed some anesthetic and X-rays, as well as a splint. She then had to endure days of antibiotic injections as well as oral medicines.”

The difficulty was that the vet clinic didn’t have an appropriate goat cage, so Clementine had to be kept in a dog kennel and hay had to be provided so she could eat.

Clementine, on the other hand, appeared to be unhappy in her kennel.

“She liked humans, therefore she was crying all the time because she wanted us,” Menzemer explained. “I was very sorry for her.”

Wood could see Clementine was considerably happy the instant she arrived at his house.

“She bonded with all of my dogs right away,” Wood added. “She was running around in the grass, despite the fact that she was wearing a cast and was limping. She sleeps in the beds of the dogs. She eats from the same bowl as them. She’s only recently joined the pack as a full member.”

“She enjoys wrestling with the dogs,” Wood continued. “Stewart, our poodle, is her favorite. They constantly butt heads together.”

Wood grew to care passionately for Clementine, to the point that she was afraid the owner would find a way to reclaim her.

“I phoned the vet ten times a day to see if [the owner] had called,” Wood added.

When the owner failed to return to the vet to pay her bill or pick up Clementine, it was determined that the issue was one of owner abandonment, and Wood was able to adopt Clementine.

Wood was giddy with joy.

“It’s like every Christmas desire has come true,” Wood expressed his delight. “I’ve always wanted a goat, and the moment I received that call, I dropped everything to go meet her, and I just knew she was the one, but I never imagined it would become a reality.”

Clementine’s leg, on the other hand, is still recovering. The doctor discovered that the bones aren’t mending properly after taking X-rays at her last appointment, and that she may require steel plates. Wood, on the other hand, will stay at Clementine’s side no matter what happens.

“She’s now a member of the family,” Wood added. “I can’t get enough of her.”
