This Syrian Man Refuses To Leave Aleppo To Look After Hundreds Of Stray Cats

Aleppo, Syria’s largest city, has been ravaged by conflict, violence, and destruction since 2012, when opposing groups attempted to take control of the city. Many inhabitants left the city in search of a better life, and in the process, they were forced to abandon their beloved pets.

However, without their owners, these poor creatures are unable to survive on the hazardous streets. As a result, a kind guy named Mohammad Alaa Aljalee stated that he would remain in the city to protect the vulnerable animals.

Alaa began with raising a group of 20-30 cats, but after a year, he has grown to be the caretaker of over 170 cats and even dogs. He established Il Gattaro d’Aleppo, a refuge, to give a home for them all. Desperate families began giving their dogs to Alaa before fleeing the country in the hopes that they would be cared for.

One poignant event, according to Alaa, was when a small girl sobbed as she handed her furry companion to him. Her parents made the decision to leave the country, but they were unable to take the cat with them. She pleaded with Alaa to send her photographs of her pets till they returned, which he dutifully did. He sends her photos of her pet cat on a regular basis. “Please promise to return my cat to me when we return,” the girl implored, according to Alaa.

He is not alone, even if all of his pals have left the country, since these cats have become his companions here. “Whatever happens, I’ll stay with them,” he added. “Anyone who has mercy for humans in their heart has mercy for all living things.”

Alaa is now known as “Aleppo’s cat guy.” Alaa has not only saved and nurtured hundreds of animals, but he also rescues humans from the war’s aftermath on a regular basis. This individual is now a feature in Aleppo’s everyday life and is regarded as the city’s hero. He is deserving of a medal for what he has achieved.
