A Woman Falls In Love With An Elderly Dog Who Has Lost His Owner

After his elderly owner went into a nursing facility, a basset dog called Bo showed up at an Alabama shelter in July. Bo was a senior citizen, according to his owner’s family, who said he was 20 years old.

After the shelter’s post about Bo went viral, Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue, a local rescue organization, agreed to take him in. Reba Morse, the founder of Sandy Wayne Sanctuary of Hope, saw the rescue group’s article about Bo and liked it.

Morse told The Dodo, “I simply saw his face and couldn’t turn away from him.” “He had the most beautiful tiny face, and I adore the elderly guy. I sent them a note saying, ‘I’m here if you need me.’

Morse looks for a lot of older dogs at Sandy Wayne Refuge of Hope, so the rescue organization thought Morse’s sanctuary would be ideal for him. Bo, on the other hand, went to the vet before moving in with Morse.

Bo turned out to be in excellent health, indicating that he had been well-loved and cared for by his previous owner. The vet, on the other hand, wasn’t sure Bo was 20 years old. He estimated he was closer to 14 or 15 years old.

“We don’t think he’s nearly 20, but we know he’s very, very old,” Morse added. “It’s difficult to say how old he is, but he’s well into his senior years.”

Morse didn’t care about Bo’s age since she was determined to give her the best life she could at her refuge.

“He’s free to come in and out of the home as he pleases, but he prefers to stay outside,” Morse explained. “As long as he’s with us, he’s very much deciding what he’s going to do.”

“He enjoys being handled and receiving attention,” Morse continued. “He can still run for a short distance, but only for a few seconds at a time. He takes a lot of breaks, but he appears to be having a good time.”

Bo was also a quick learner when it came to making new acquaintances. Pappy, an 18-year-old beagle, has become a particular friend to him.

“They get along extremely well,” Morse explained. “They simply sleep and sleep all day.”

Normally, dogs that are separated from their owners become unhappy for a period of time, according to Morse, but Bo seemed unconcerned about his new living arrangement. This isn’t to say Bo didn’t care about his previous owner, Morse feels this is due to Bo’s dementia.

“It’s almost as if he doesn’t realize he’s been separated or that he’s lost his family,” Morse added. “He’s simply enjoying himself at the moment. He is ecstatic with everything that is occurring for him right now.”

Morse is totally over heals in love with Bo, and all she wants is for Bo’s former owner to know he’s getting the finest care possible.

“Someone looked after him, and someone loved him – that’s what crushes my heart,” Morse added. “I wish I could inform his family that he is OK. He’ll never be cold or hot, he’ll never be hungry, and he’ll never be thirsty. He’ll get all the attention he deserves, and he’ll be well taken care of.”
